You have more mediums of communication at your disposal than ever. You can reach just about anyone through social media, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and the other social networks. You can find almost anyone on Google®. Most everyone has e-mail, cell phone and text. More and more have tablets.
When I started in business in 1978, I had the phone, mail, and face-to-face as my only choices to meet with people. Now you have the Internet, Skype, webinars, teleconferencing, and a host of other media to attract people to you.
The Internet changed the playing field. It fundamentally and radically changed the game. Yet you don’t have to rely completely on the Internet.
The telephone has re-emerged as a critically important and effective piece of equipment. At a Speakers and Authors Networking Group (SANG) meeting, Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos, said,
“The telephone is the best branding tool ever devised.”
I teach a training called Telephone Mastery. It’s a key part of the NEW Game of Selling. There’s a whole new game of telemarketing, telesales, and teleservice. The telephone is a valuable tool to leverage. Telephone mastery is also one of the least developed skills being taught. Master the phone.
